My name is Luba, I was born in Russia and came to live in Norway as a child. What stuck most with me from my Russian past is the fairytales, visiting the datcha, where we grew our own food and spent time in nature. All these are my most important places of inspiration to this day. Luckily Norway is just as beautiful and fairytale like as my homeland and you will find my appreciation for this in my works.
Ever since I could hold a pencil I have been drawing and my technical skills are self taught. Later I have started doing photography, painting and most recently performance art
Being a child from another country made me feel like an outsider all the time, yet as I became more Norwegian I became less Russian and now I was and outsider in my homeland too. I was from there, yet not of that world, I am here, yet not of this world… So who am I and where do I belong?
This question and feeling are the starting point of my Self exploration through the painting medium and this journey has led me to the realization of belonging in nature and the world as a whole, which are subjects I now try to depict and explore in my works
I am inspired by fairytales, myths, psychology and astrology. My earlier works contain themes as coming of age, heartbreak and the dark beginnings of the inner journey
These days I have been delving into how a deeper understanding of ourselves reflects in a deeper understanding of the earth that we live on, its people and creatures …. and how this translates into how we treat ourselves and others and how this all fits into the drama of the current times…
